Volunteer with us.
Friends of Refugees London is a voluntary organisation and all of our services are provided by volunteers. We offer training and support for all of our volunteers and you do not need to have had any previous experience to join us.
Our services are designed to complement a range of other options available to refugees, vulnerable migrants, and people seeking asylum. Our volunteer befrienders provide informal support, from help with everyday life, learning the English language and getting around London, to attending appointments, signposting to statutory services and helping them understand their rights.
In Lewisham, we work closely with the Refugee Council, Lewisham Refugee & Migrant Network, Lewisham Council, Action for Refugees in Lewisham and many others to ‘fill in the gaps’ in support. As we expand, we will use our befriending model to offer support to more clients, and collaborate with likeminded organisations across South London.
As a volunteer, you can get involved in one or more different activities.
-
Introduce refugees to all London has to offer - museums, parks, galleries and other new London experiences
-
Help with English where required - you don't need to be teacher; often the clients we will support simply require help with conversation and homework.
-
Arrange community events, such as football matches, trips, and meals.
- Support clients with employment opportunities.
-
Raise money to help our clients find their feet in their new home.
We are also recruiting volunteer trustees. Please visit our Trustees page for more information.
